It's a trustworthy source about using appropriate skills and strategies to get past a financial crisis, to get consumer debts under control, and to set up a budget that works. The case narratives truly illustrate each key point being clarified, and the suggested responses to client questions are gems. The many "do's and don'ts" for counselors are right on target. Financial counselors will jump for joy when they see the many "nuts and bolts" illustrations of counseling forms, worksheets, counseling instruments, brochures, participant records, and program evaluation forms. Financial Counseling in Practice: A Practical Guide

Practical describes this book perfectly. The author has achieved with great success, a down to earth method of helping counselors understand the real process of working with their clients to achieve financial wellness. Most financial counseling books I have read tend to be somewhat over my head even though I have been a credit union financial counselor for nearly 25 years. The book has many helpful worksheets that I use in my money management workshops and group counseling sessions. Two of my most favorite chapters deal with debt management and financial calculating for counselors. "Financial Counseling in Practice" offers extremely helpful tools for assisting counselors to really make a difference in helping individuals improve their overall financial picture. Whether you are an experienced counselor or someone who is just beginning a career in helping people achieve financial stability, I recommend this book highly. Even if you are not a financial counselor by profession, ministers, care givers or anyone wanting to better assess their own financial position, will find this book useful.
