Speaking as a psychologist...
As a practicing psychologist, I've read a lot of self-help books on stress reduction. This one is different and better. Cutting edge medicine, cognitive therapy and practical coping strategies are combined into concise chapters that do not have to be read in sequence. The questionnaires give you a quick way to increase your self knowledge, and the strategies for coping are practical and time-efficient. These are no case anecdotes and stories, which as far as I'm concerned are simply page fillers--this book says it all in succinct, clear writing that doesn't talk down to the reader. I like how Dr. Wheeler explains the difference between stress and strain, and offers many different techniques for understanding and handling pressure, rejection, anxiety or loss. But her work addresses something bigger: not just what you need to get away from, but what you need to go toward. It's not just damage control, it's about finding your best self in the midst of your face-paced, demanding life. This book is wisdom distilled into something you can make good use of even at a traffic light.
