Lots of Insight Given
I bought this book when I was struggling with a very difficult and painful relationship. This book helped me see the behaviors my partner was manifesting were very destructive, had nothing to do with me, and were unchangeable by anyone other than my partner -- who was unwilling to look at himself and his behavior. I had spent several painful months deciding what to do. This book helped me end the relationship and move on with my life. It is easily understood and contains checklists and exercises to help the reader understand the problems the self-absorbed bring to a relationship.

Oh my Goodness---
This is written clearly for the layperson who may find themselves involved with a "self-centered" person.
This book does not focus on that person, but on the partner and what within the partner-- attracts and is used by the narcissist. Gives strategies the partner can use to stay emotionally healthy.
As I read this I thought..."Oh my goodness"
Rating:
Better than reading a "how-to give up" book.
I read Malignant Self Love as it is a wonderful book that gives alot of insight on narcissism. But as science is narcissistic itself. It believes in acting on behalf of one's self. In other words, if you're not satisfied with your parther's faults then by all means, give up(at least until science finds and answer).
I don't believe that sincere, giving, honest people do these things. If they do, it's extremely difficult. To call a person "soul-less" just because they have a label on their forehead that reads "NARCISSIST" doesn't mean theyre not human. Yes, any abusive relationship gives one a choice, to endure- and possibly help(for better or worse), or get out and find someone else. This puts a perspective on relationships that is no better than a disease itself. Hence, glass half empty. So again what's the difference between science and narcissism?
"Loving the Self-Absorbed: How to Create a More Satisfying Relationship with a Narcissistic Partner" is a good book.
I prefer the "faith" based approach, along with the ideas of morals and values instead of selfishly getting what you want out of life. People who live by their marriage vows and for others can endure certain "abuses". There's no excuse for physical abuse, ever, but emotional abuse is measured by one's reactions to another's actions. Fight or flight?
There is probably a number of people who "suck" the life out of others but it's hypocritical to judge others because they fit the scientific mold. You cannot possible measure the worth of any person.
This is an important book in that it sees that "real" progress is about overcoming obstacles as a couple instead of thinking outside a relationship or avoiding certain "type" of character in acquaintences.
I have cerebral narcissistic traits. Life has not been easy for me or my wife from day one. Because of my own self awareness I am able to function much better and for "us" instead of just "myself". I attribute religion and books like this one as a strong influence on my self improvement towards better relationships.
