Great unit, gone bad

I bought one of these for myself in September. It is still fantastic. However, I bought one for my son in early January. The power button broke. So, we RMA'ed the unit and got a replacement. The replacement is now frozen. Working with SanDisk to troubleshoot it, but it looks like it's going back as well!

What happened? This was such a great player. Guess SanDisk is having quality issues.

Love/Hate - Let the buyer beware

The features of this product are awesome -- and the unit's interface is excellent. We purchased the 2GB m250 from Amazon for our daughter for Christmas. It was an amazing, compact, solid-state unit -- and it was very, very good...

...until out of the blue after a couple of weeks, the unit 'froze' (wouldn't 'boot'... wasn't detected when plugged into the computer). Suggestions by SanDisk corporate support were fruitless. We exchange the product through Amazon. All was well... upon getting the new device, we quickly upgraded the firmware (through the SanDisk site) just in case it was firmware weirdness that caused the issues with the first unit. Our daughter was happy, demonstrating the flexibility of an MP3/WMA player over a iPod Nano to her friends. We were pleased...

...until one week later, again the second unit 'froze'. It is unrecoverable, and per other reviews, Amazon declined to exchange it for another unit -- which is fine with me -- instead, giving us our money back. Clearly, there is a manufacturing defect somewhere. I would love to love this device... but I cannot recommend it. You will be disappointed as you fall in love with it -- only to go through the hassle of out-of-the-blue-freezes which render the unit inoperable and unrecoverable.

No more SanDisk products for our family. A shame... the potential for this product is -- er, was -- amazing.

Mine works fine, my son's did not - A great product gone wrong

I ordered my son a Silver model for Christmas. We had given his wife one a year ago. He loaded it for her and he liked it, so I got him one. Same story as all the others; it froze in the first 10 hours. Meanwhile, I had ordered a Black one for myself. It is flawless to this point. So, I got credit for the Silver and bought my son a Black. It froze in the first few hours, as did its replacement. Amazon declined to ship a third and gave me a refund. I upgraded my son to an e250. (too soon to know on it) My Black model is great. I am 70+ and use it for walking, with an adaptor in the car, and as an input to a Bose radio. Interface with WMP 11 is first class. Playlists, artists and albums all shown correctly. Battery life as advetised on a rechargeable.
AMAZON has been OUTSTANDING with replacements and refunds and deserves highest marks. Lowest marks to Sansa for not addressing this on their website and coming up with a real fix! Why not??? My son is a runner and was using the stopwatch. He wonders if that is part of the problem. I definatly do not plan to try the stopwatch to find out! A great device needing a great fix!
